Transcript of my podcast episode (4)
Hello again, and welcome to the 4th episode of mini ENGSPRESSO. Have you noticed anything new about this podcast? Well, there’s one thing I need to tell you about – your access to the episodes. You may have noticed that Episode 3 in this series is now locked – let me explain why.
Up to now, all my episodes have been available to everyone. But I’ve decided to put in a bit more work and record more of them. So the good news is: you’ll have much more material to practise your English with. On the other hand, if you’d like to listen to more than just one new episode a month, you’ll need to subscribe to my podcast. That way, you’ll have access to three extra episodes every month.
And here’s another bit of good news – the subscription fee is very affordable. It’s about the same as the price of a cup of coffee. I’d say it’s worth it, don’t you think? I really hope you see this as something positive rather than negative because it simply means I can create even more useful content for you. So make sure you find the subscription link in the description of this episode, and keep your eyes peeled for new recordings!
Also, please remember that if your level of English is about B1, and you’d like to improve your conversational skills with me, you can still join my individual lessons for women. I am looking forward to your message.
And now it’s time to teach you another two expressions!
The first expression for today is TO READ SB’S MIND. If you can read someone’s mind, it means you know what they’re thinking without them saying it.
For instance: She didn’t say she was hungry, but he brought her a snack as if he could read her mind. Now, repeat after me.
Ona nie powiedziała, że jest głodna, ale on przyniósł jej przekąskę – jakby czytał jej w myślach.
Another example: I was just about to suggest a walk when she did it first – she really read my mind!
Już miałam zaproponować spacer, kiedy ona zrobiła to pierwsza – naprawdę czytała mi w myślach!
The second expression is TO MAKE AN EFFORT. It means to try hard to do something, even if it isn’t easy.
For instance: Could you make an effort to join me in the marathon? I just need company.
Czy mógłbyś spróbować pobiec ze mną w maratonie? Potrzebuję po prostu towarzystwa.
Another example: If you make an effort to speak slowly, everyone will understand you.
Jeśli postarasz się mówić powoli, wszyscy cię zrozumieją.
And now it’s time for your ENGSPRESSO to go!
Our context for the phrases is:
He’ll never say what he’d like to get for his birthday, so you have to read his mind and make an effort to prepare the perfect gift.
On nigdy nie powie, co chciałby dostać na urodziny, więc musisz mu czytać w myślach i postarać się przygotować idealny prezent.
Brilliant! I am really glad that I’ve decided to continue this series as it’s enjoyable for me and practical for you! Now you can visit my website angielskidokawy.pl and check the full transcript of today’s mini ENGSPRESSO. And if you don’t want to miss out on new episodes this month, you’d better subscribe to my podcast right away!
Thanks for tuning in and speak to you really soon!
